RESTRICTED SUBSTANCES LIST SERVICES FOR CONSUMER PRODUCTS
A Proactive Approach to Chemical Risks and Brand Protection
Download the service sheet in PDF
With increasing concern about the adverse affects on our health and environment from hazardous substances, several countries including the United States, have enacted legislation and restrictions for a number of hazardous substances. These requirements affect a variety of industries including apparel, footwear, hardlines, electronic and electrical, toys and juvenile products. There is also continued pressure from governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations and a changing competitive marketplace to reduce the exposure of the user and environment to various chemicals that present health hazards. Many brands, retailers and manufacturers have adopted Restricted Substances List (RSL) programs to address this challenge.
A Restricted Substance List Program helps brands, retailers and manufacturers identify hazardous substances that may be present in their products. After potential substances are identified, an ongoing program is developed to meet governmental requirements and industry standards for markets in which products will be sold.
A comprehensive Restricted Substance List Program will:
• Protect against hazards to consumer health and the environment
• Address chemical concerns throughout the complete supply chain and product life cycle
• Communicate requirements clearly so that they are understood by all critical parties involved in product sourcing and manufacturing.
What are the key benefits?
• Meet regulatory requirements for each distribution country
• Enhance brand image through economic and environmental responsibility
• Minimize recalls
• Improve product quality through environmentally-friendly goods and materials
• Be on the leading edge for future regulatory requirements
